Dare to Dream Over the Rainbow

Over-the-rainbowSomewhere over the rainbow, dreams do come true – no matter what your circumstance.

This poignant story is proof positive that we can live our dreams at any age.

Beyond that, it’s testament to the power of courage, the love of family in fulfilling a dying wish and an incredibly powerful woman named Dorothy.

Thank you Dorothy and family.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can’t I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can’t I?

  1. A beautiful story about and for Dorothy. I am so glad that her family got to see her being so completely happy in her last weeks. We can all hope we are so well taken care of.

  2. We had a neighbour, Oley. She had never been on a motorcycle and always dreamt about it. Dave took her out on her 85. Birthday on his Harley. She screamed ‘I am free, I am free!’ when they drove on the highway, a bit faster than allowed… She also wanted to try a joint, I was about to organize one for her, when she passed away shortly before her 90. Birthday. It would have been my present for her. Not many days pass by that I don’t think or talk about her. She passed away in May 2010. Peace to her soul! I plan getting old like she did. There are some people who just are simply special!

  3. Thanks for this Liz. I forwarded the link to all my family this weekend with fond memories of our mum/granny who realized a dream on my birthday, May 2011. My boyfriend courageously fulfilled her wish and took her on her first motorcyle ride. As it turned out, it was just 3 months before she passed away at 88 years old.
    Yeah Mum. Yeah Dorothy.
