Cultivate Courage One Day At a Time

Ten years ago, I set off on a journey to parts unknown. A 25-year marriage had ended, a long-term career was coming to a close and I was about to embark on a 2-month solo motorcycle odyssey.

courageIn front of me lay a blank slate of opportunity and adventure. I knew not what awaited me, only that my motorcycle was pointed west.

The trip reinforced the life-altering changes already set in motion. A question often presented to me was, “Weren’t you afraid?”

It hadn’t occurred to me to be scared. I was a proficient rider, resourceful, had a new reliable motorcycle and was traveling within North America, where for the most part I understood the language and the culture. What was there to be afraid of?

I explained that every day I just went for a ride. Simple, manageable, doable. Before I knew it, I was at the Pacific Ocean and it was time to turn south.

It’s taken all that time to realize the same approach moves us along our personal path. Learning the lessons of trust, faith and courage happen one day at a time.

When we’re guided to step into parts unknown, our journey doesn’t have to be onerous and frightening. All it takes is walking with courage for one day. I can do that.

Before we know it, we’ve crossed a great distance, grown spiritually and are ready for new levels of adventure.

  1. I’m planning a solo trip this summer.. I have a new touring bike, maps and gps.. and the will to want to get out on the roads. I figure, if I wait for someone to go with me, I may never get there..
With encouragement through your Webinars and through reading your book, I’ll be heading West!
    Thank you Liz!

    • That’s exciting Monet! Congratulations. We’ll want pictures and stories! You’re going to have such an amazing time. Can’t wait to hear about it.
