9 Ways to Extend Your Fuel Range

Like riding a motorcycle, knowing our fuel range is important for all areas of our well-being. Our stomachs usually let us know when it’s time to stop and eat. Recognizing that it’s time to recharge mentally, emotionally, spiritually can be more subtle – but just as disabling if we run out of fuel.

fuel rangeWhether we’re talking motorcycle or self, we want to extend our range, get as much distance as possible from the available fuel – and not run out!

Here are 9 ways to extend our range:

  1. Exercise your body. Most experts recommend at least 20 minutes of exercise three times a week. Just doing something is better than doing nothing at all. Unfortunately, riding a motorcycle on the street doesn’t burn calories. There is however scientific proof that off-road vehicle riding is great for health-related fitness. My favorite activity, although sadly neglected, is hiking through the woods. It nourishes my body, mind and spirit.

  1. Exercise your Mind. Challenge yourself regularly. Take a course, try something different and learn something new. Keep your brain active, stay focused,

  1. Be Positive. Thinking positive thoughts can protect your heart from cardiovascular disease. Read Don’t worry. Be Healthy And it puts you in a much better frame of mind. There’s only so much energy; no sense throwing it away on worry and negativity. That’s just diverting it from a useful purpose and leaving less for positive endeavors.

  1. Rest. Although there is debate about how much sleep our bodies require, suffice it to say that they tell us when we need to rest. A regular sleep schedule with sufficient time each night contributes to our overall physical and mental well-being.

  1. Plan an Adventure. Although the definition of adventure is unique to each person, we owe it to ourselves to have adventures as often as possible. After all, our whole life is an adventure!! Fun, play and laughter make us – and everyone around us – feel better. The little child inside of us never grows up and needs attention.

  1. Eat Well. A diet that is primarily nutritious, balanced, predominantly vegetables, organic and raw as much as possible promotes health and longevity. Our body houses our spirit so we owe it to ourselves to create as hospitable an environment as possible.

  1. Nourish your Spirit. As this is the essence of who we are, our connection to the Universe and each other, it bears listening to. It’s our stalwart guide and power center, always there, ready for us to access. We need quiet time to hear it though.

  1. Maintain Balance. The eternal quest – maintaining balance of mind, body and spirit. Yet it’s so important for our well-being. Learning to say no is fundamental. There is only so much gas in the tank for us to expend. It means prioritizing and pacing ourselves. Running full out consumes more fuel and reduces our range.

  1. Collaborate. – Drafting is a phenomenon used by racers. Done correctly, it lessens the drag on the both vehicles and will allow both vehicles to move faster due to improved aerodynamics. The life lesson is that we don’t have to do everything ourselves. There are infinite resources available to us and often we just need to ask. We only need to do our part, not fix the world.
